Classic Singer Songwriter of the American Songbook
A James Taylor concert with a band is always a treat for the ears. JT writes great songs and also plays songs by others such as Van de Drifters and Carole King. The small band: Steve Gadd on drums Jimmy Johnson on bass, Michael Landau guitar had a bigger role this evening than on previous tours. The backing vocalists and keyboard player were missing so this was taken up by the small band. Open arrangements and a bigger role for the bass. As a result, the music became very open and with space for each player to shine. The annoying point was the sound adjustment (hall mix) drums sounded abominable and far too loud. Steve Gadd's dynamic playing kept it just under control, but the hi-hat was really far too sharp and big. Too bad. Previous concerts by JT, including in Carre Amsterdam, sounded fantastic. A shame for such a good band. Unworthy of JT.
